Posted by Louise on February 25, 1998 at 15:27:17:I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea just over a year ago and starting using the CPAP machine. It turned out to not be enough. After several pressure adjustments and a trial on BiPAP, he is now recommending a dental appliance to pull my lower jaw forward to open my throat. My concern is there is no insurance company willing to cover the costs and I can't even try it before I buy it. It costs $1,200 which is far beyond my reach on a disability pension. I'm also concerned it will change the alignment of my upper and lower jaw which has a perfect bite right now. I'd hate to buy it only to find it doesn't work either.
Your feedback would be much appreciated.
