When the body is horizontal and you are on your back, the weight of the fat is on your intestinal cavity. This pressure is transferred to the respiratory system which includes the windpipe all the way up to the larynx. The larynx is free to move and when the pressure is excessive move a small amount up into the throat. I had a traech and got relief from my 911 trips. I was using a BiPap St repirator. In addition I experienced some other benefits that were not anticapated. My nasal passages opened up an I can breath better. The traech limits the pressure that can be applied to my windpipe and larynx. Negatives, when the traech tube is open you cant talk or blow you nose whithout putting your finger over the tube. In addition no pressure can be applied to the color or the bladder. When the traech tube is plugged, things are normal.
