sleep apnea

Posted by Sue on March 01, 1998 at 18:38:23:

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 2 months ago, at a sleep clinic in Reno. I am 36 yrs. old, have agoraphobia and am on Paxil for it. CPAP was recommended, but it terrifies me. The sleep doctor and ENT also said I would possibly benefit from ear and throat surgery. They want to repair a deviated septum, "rotor-rooter" the back of the throat and shave off some soft palatte. I worry about voice changes because I am a teacher. My mother (anurse) is worried about needing repeated surgeries due to scar tissue build up. I have a 7 yr. old boy with a mild form of autism and anxiety disorders, and am afraid the CPAP will scare h im . help!
