I am a registered sleep tech. I am curious that your respiratory events were only halved during the test. This is generally due to technical issues. Most people can be brought into normal range. Options are as follows: weight loss, another test using either CPAP again or a Bi-level machine, dental devices or surgery. Dental devices work best in the mild to moderate range of sleep apnea patients. Your numbers fall into the severe range. Weight loss (10-20% in overweight pts.) can reduce events by up to half. Combinations of therapies can be useful (ie. weight loss & CPAP). I would have a lot of questions about your previous study and only with those results could the next best possibility be explored. You are right however to avoid surgical options. They are not very successful. Good luck. If you have further questions please post here. I will see them.
