Sleep behavior in animals

I am a veterinary student at Michigan State University. I am writing my research paper on states of consciousness in animals with an emphaisis on sleep. Why some animals sleep only 1 hour a day while others sleep 20 of more hours. I am looking for any sources that you know of that would be of help in my paper. I will also post anything that I find interesting. Your input will be greatly appreciated!
