Posted by Jean Rudy on March 03, 1998 at 15:37:00:My husband has had sleep apnea for as long as I've known him, he has been treated for high bloodpressure for about 9 years and was told this week that he has a massive enlarged heart since his last x-rays 5 years ago. Could this be a reszult of his sleep apnea? He has never been convinced to be evaluated for the apnea. He does not follow the obstructive profile, snoring is not loud, he has apnea sitting straight up, his episodes display a curve from shallow to deep and back to shallow breathing followed by a period of apnea. I have noticed that hre has gone from 6-10 breaths to 3-5 breaths lately followed by a like period of apnea. There is no sudden snort or stop, just a shallow breath followed by apnea. He is thin, does not drink or have a large neck , I tend to think maybe this is cns apnea. He ids having a cardiac workup this week , stress test etc, I feel the apnea is possible the root of his problems, and important to relate to the cardiologist.Amy info to help ? thanks
