newly diagnosed - central sleep apnea

Does anyone know what causes central sleep apnea? Is it congenital? My initial study revealed some obstructive episodes and one central apnea episode. Follow-up study with c-pap revealed no obstructive episoded and SIX episodes of central sleep apnea. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
