I am always sleepy

I have low blood sugar and always attributed my tiredness to that. I saw a special on tv and now I am having doubts. I need at least 9 hrs sleep a night to funtion. Usually I need 11 or 12 a couple nights a week to function properly. As long as my diet is good, I can go without napping through the day. When I lay down -at night or to nap I always fall right asleep and sleep through the night. Is it normal to need a lot of sleep?
