I too have severe obstructive sleep apnea. I've been on CPAP now for about a yr and a half. I was so amazed after the first nite. I lost my job (in a major hospital, I might add) because I fell asleep on the job and was so tired and forgetful. They actually fired me for that! To compound the problem, I lost my insurance....would you believe they also repo'd my CPAP machine? True. I have been denied twice for Medicaid...can't get help for meds or monitoring CPAP machine (the sleep center that did my study gave me an old one...mask is wearing out and no money to get new one)....am on disability social security but am having one heck of a battle to get insurance. It is very scarey to think that at any point, I may have to go without my mask...Suffocation is a horrible thing and anyone who experiences this disease knows that. I thank God for the person who invented the CPAP and, like you, wouldn't leave home without it! By the way, if anyone reading this has any insight, advice or experience with getting assistance, please e-mail me...I would really appreciate it so much.
