Sleep Apnea?? for a 3 year old???

I have a child that has the disturbed breathing characteristics of the descriptions of sleep apnea. We are going to a doctor soon... Do children this young experience sleep apnea. Are there other childhood disorders closely related or similarly disguised? She has a frequent tendency to choke, gasp or hold your breath during sleep. She doesn't rest well at night, and one of us is usually up at night and moving her every 10 minutes... Any advise... Remedies... Thanks for your help!
