I've been on CPAP for 3 weeks now. I started with a passover humidifier and found it to be totally useless. It held only 2 cups of water and would last for 3 days on this miniscule amount. I switched to a Sullivan Humidair, and what a difference. I crank it up to about 8 1/2, which is just before it starts to form condensation in the hose. It uses about a gallon every 4 to 5 days. I am much more comfortable, my nose is most and I don't feel dried out in the morning. I chose the sullivan because it was the newest style and matched up with my Sullivan CPAP.
I had a followup today with my physician and specifically asked about distilled water. He felt that it was probably not necessary as long as I cleaned the unit daily.
Good Luck!
Charlie
