fiance' is a mover and a shaker in his sleep

Posted by jal on March 12, 1998 at 11:53:12:

My fiance' is continuously on the move in his sleep and I can't imagine how he can feel rested. Approximately three hours after going to bed, he begins tossing and turning, at times shifting only his extremities while other times re-adjusting his whole body. Also, once or twice a night he talks (and sometimes laughs!) in his sleep. Needless to say, all this activity wakes me up and keeps me awake until I find it necessary to move to the couch.

From what I've read and been told, these symptoms do not fit into the "restless leg syndrome" and he has been tested negative for sleep apnea.

He says he isn't tired in the morning after one of his "violent nights", but I certainly am! Does anyone know how much movement during sleep is normal for an individual; specifically for a 42-year old male?

We're getting married in a couple of months, and would like some advice into what our next step should be --- beside sleeping in two separate rooms!

Thanks!
