Posted by Mary Zimmerman on March 15, 1998 at 17:40:57:During the last week of Jan. I moved to a new city, new environment, new life. I am renting a room in a house with three other people. I am planning to move into my own place soon!! I am terribly stressed from this new environment and not knowing anyone or having people to talk with about ANYTHING. The people I live with are too noisey for me. They would not be considered noisey by others - I just have the fourtunate gift of being VERY sensative to noise, vibes, taste anything else you can think of. At first it took me hours to get to sleep then I would sleep (with normal dreams ect.) now I am lucky if I can fall asleep at all and if I do I usualyy wake up soon after and stay awake all night or get woken up EVERY morning (at6)by the girl opposite my wall who talks on the phone obsessivly. I talked with her and she is being much quieter than before but it is still too loud for me. I would not mind being woken up if the time I sleep from (anywhere between 10-1) and the time I am woken (6-7) was time I spent REALLY sleeping (remembering my dreams ect.). I saw the doctor at school. He made me feel as though this was MY FAULT and my body won't be able to EVER sleep in AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!- even if I moved. Before I moved I slept from 10-12 to 8-10 straight. HE REALLY ANGERED ME! I can't belive how uninformed the university I attend is. Did this doctor tell me the TRUTH? How much would my sleep disorder cost to restore (ball park figure) at a sleep center?
Does anyone have ANY suggestions regarding how I can get REAL sleep until I move? I've tried and am trying sleeping pills (prescribed and over the counter and natural), running a fan while you sleep, playing music and "white noise", ear plugs, and I get plenty of excercise with bus as my transportation. I am taking hot baths, drinking non-caffinated teas, cutting down on sugar and caffine.
THANK YOU FOR ANY RESPONSES
