New kid here!! Help with Gold Seal Mask - hurts upper lip

Posted by Lori Weisel on March 16, 1998 at 01:08:03:

Hi, I am newly diagnosed with OSA. With 65 disturbances per hour - and two CPAP trials; got started with a Sullivan V Plus set at 8. Using a Gold Seal nasal mask by Respironics. I am on my fourth night of it and am having problems with a sore developing on my upper lip just under my nose. It seems the mask is maybe (?) pressing too hard on my upper lip. It hurts to the touch and is turning into a problem trying to cover this red spot with make-up (vain ? yeah, you bet) as it turns dry and crusty looking, yuck! I am think of laying a thin piece of gauze on it just before putting the mask on. Any ideas/suggestions? What about this "bubble" mask I've been reading about and these "nasal pillows." They were not mentioned to me by the tech at the sleep lab or the DME tech when he came to the house to fit me and let me decide which machine/masks I wanted.
I have gained alot of insight in spending the last two hours reading numerous postings from all three forums and am very thankful such a sight exists.

Thanks in advance for any imput or suggestions for this "newby in Southern California"
