FOUND THIS "white noise machine" mentioned in the APRIL 1998 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine in the States. Then found the add info in an Alta Vista search for the phrase "sound spa clock radio". Hope it is helpful
Sound Spa Clock Radio soothes your
nerves with white noiseAh, white noise.
Frankly, Hot Stuff finds the bliss of nothingness somewhat redundant.
But HoMedics Inc. in Keego Harbor, Mich., thinks nothingness, at
least when sold in the form of white noise, is soothing stuff. The company includes white noise (defined as a "heterogenous mixture of
sound waves extending over a wide frequency range") with the sounds of
ocean waves, summer nights, spring rain, mountain springs, and the
woods, in a product it calls the Sound Spa Clock Radio. The idea
here is that you'll chill big time if you play the sounds when you wake or
when you go to sleep -- or both.(Hot Stuff wonders: Does spring rain sound different than, say, winter
rain? And are sea-level spring sounds less soothing than spring sounds
recorded in the mountains?)The clock includes a timer that can call off the soothing after 15, 30 or 60
minutes. But the sounds may work as some sort of a catalyst for
longer-term mellowness. HoMedics says regular listening to the sounds
leads to "hours of stress-free living."Cost is $70. For information, call (800) 333-8282.
