Do you wake up later than normal on occasions (or what was once normal for you) or most of the time? Are you ever late for work due to not being able to awaken on time, or feel like you're in a fog when you first wake up? Do you fall asleep once you are at home or doing sedate activities? Have you ever been tested for narcolepsy to rule it out?
The reason I ask these questions is that I had the same problem, along with difficulty arising and would get to work late. I too did not think I had narcolepsy, but it was unrefutably diagnosed as such once I was tested in a Sleep Lab using a polysomograph and MSLT after an all night study. If you haven't been tested for narcolepsy please don't rule it out. Also the inability to move upon awakening sounds like "sleep paralysis" which is another component of narcolepsy.
BRaymondPS I too am alert and do not fall asleep once up and going. Initially I would fall asleep once I left my work site on the way home in the car (I don't drive) or if I was doing sedate activities such as reading, crocheting, etc. Now with treatment I no longer fall asleep doing sedate activities except on rare occasions or on weekends.
