I had an RDI of 71 and didn't want a CPAP mask for the rest of my life. My ENT Dr. presented options for me to consider. No promises of success, only options. I had my Septoplasty and UP3 operations on 1/27/98. I feel better, I sleep better and I'm going back to the Sleep Disorders Center to get my new RDI in April. Now that I had the operation, My wife tells me that I don't snore or display apnea symptoms. The pain from the operation was delt with through medication and was over in a week. Now it appears that I'll be off the mask for life. I suggest that you gather the date for your specific situation and make an informed decision. Remember that the doctors work for you! Give them their 20 questions and expect 20 expert answers. Rates for UP3 success and failure are averages. You are not average so base your decision on your medical data. Your ENT doctor should put the scope up your nose and down your throat, examine your passageways, and then tell you if the UP3 operation is an option for you to consider.Good Luck,
Richard
