Yes it is prefectly reasonable to practice with your CPAP during wake time. Hold it up to your nose for as long as you like, then take it away. Put it back later and try again. Eventually you want to put it on with the elastic straps, but you can work up to that. many poeple do not need to accomodate to it this slowly, but who cares! It's called sytematic desentization, and is used to treat phobias of all kinds. Not the being uncomfortable with CPAP means you have a phobia, but you get the idea. It is fine to work into it slowly. One of my sleep center's biggest CPAP fans is a patient who took two weeks of practice to just put the mask on with the straps, and she hadn't even turned the air on yet!! Don't sweat it, but do keep trying. A MONTH is not unreasonable to really get used to CPAP.
