Still looking for an answer...

Where do I begin....

I have a 4 year old with "multiple sleep pathologies". Started at 6 mos old with terrible screaming at night when he first woke up and from then on he only averaged about 2.5 hrs sleep a night. Our whole household was suffering from sleep deprivation.

The first doctor called it 'sleep terrors' (ya right, at 6 mos old I don't think so!!!) and told us it would pass. It wasn't until he was 2 yrs old that the terrors finally stopped. Still, he was thrashing in the bed, sleeping little and started showing signs of motor tics when he was awake.

Anyway to make a very long story short, 2 sleep labs and 3 neurologists later the only thing we have found out is that he does not go into stage 3 sleep. One doctor says it's a lack of seratonin and has prescribed Tryptophan to help him stay asleep and clonodine to help get him to sleep (would be up until 2 am if you just let him try to fall asleep on his own). He now only wakes up once or twice a night now...but still....

Meanwhile he has ADHD so all day long he's going at Mach 3...

The sleep "specialist" is puzzled and doesn't quite know what to do either. Is there ANYONE OUT THERE who knows of anything similar????

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sleepily,

Cheryl in Ontario
