Posted by Marilyn Sensabaugh on March 25, 1998 at 16:08:32:Can anyone tell me if there is a possible connection between epilepsy and sleep apnea?I believe that I have read that CNS Depressants can contribute to this sleep disorder and am thinking that the Dilantin I'm taking may be contributing to the problem.
Sleep Apnea has not yet been confirmed in my case, and Previously I had thought that my sleepiness was just the result of the dilantin (a very common side effect). However, my husband has informed me that I stop breathing at night, very briefly, in between very loud snores (I've had this problem for years, he says). He brought it up because I'm having to go to bed earlier & earlier each night, and I'm just more exhausted the next day. Situation has been getting quite problematic, and I have an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow. From what I have read, I'm almost certain that this is the cause.
But does anyone know if the dilantin (or even epilepsy itself) could be contributing?
Thanks for any information--I'm desperate--all I want to do is sleep!
