I couldn't agree more with Ken. Not much had been studied about apnea until the mid to late 80's, and unfortunately too many people suffer from it. Keep in mind that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a physical partial/full occlusion of the airway. This means that there can possibly be things you can do to relieve, or even alleiviate some apnea (e.g. weight loss and excercise, avoid alcohol prior to bed, etc). You must also realize that we are living in an age of laziness, and we don't physically exert ourselves towards labor as that of our predecessing ancestry. Therefore we sit in front of the T.V., drink a beer, and get fat! (I don't mean to offend; I'm starting to show signs of snoring/apnea too!) No wonder we have more cases of sleep complaints now more than ever. Sorry about the soapbox speech, but it was meant as constructive assistance.
Hope it helped.
