I couldn't help related to what you said about waking up one day totally awake and wondering if that's how other normal people felt. I remember one day like that too, and my tennis game was at a whole new level that morning. The other thing that I also have happened that my sleep study showed absolutely nothing. I have every symptom of narcolepsy, except cataplexy, and some days would need three naps to get through the day. I had no unusual vivid dreams like usual and wasn't at all tired for the scheduled naps for the daytime part of the test. Even if the money would cover another test, I couldn't stand it, if the same thing happened again. I wish they could set up home studies, to be done over a few nights. I hope you continue to keep researching to find your diagnosis. Ritalin has evened me out. I still take a scheduled nap everyday, sometimes two, but sleep doesn't seem to control my daytime now. I have no idea of longterm effects, as I am new to all this too. Wish you the best.
