Debbie, You're causing a BIG case of deja vu! I absolutely hated and continue to hate the idea of putting on and sleeping with a mask and being tethered to a machine. The force of the air makes me feel as though I can't breath, an odd feeling considering it is forcing huge volumes of air down my throat. But let me tell you, after about 3 weeks of suffering I started to feel so good during the waking hours that it has become my lifesaver and is now my constant travel companion. My machine has made multiple trips to Singapore, UK, Malaysia and all over the US. In a very real sense I consider CPAP to be a true lifesaver.
Stick with it, put up with the frustrations and agony of getting used to it. And by all means use the ramp feature and if you don't have it find a way to get a machine that does. Do whatever you have to to get used to it, you will be happy you did. And by the way, two years later I still have to nearly fall asleep w/o it before I'll put the mask on, but I'm never without it.
