Hi Carolyn:

I'm only 43, and was diagnosed in October 1997, my 2nd sleep study to establish the C-Pap machine is May 5, so from then on I will be "hooked up to a machine" for the rest of my life. I have done extensive research (through the net) and otherwise, and surgery is not said necessarily to be a total success in some people. The problem may recur. I have also heard numerous testimony that once you have been on this machine you feel a tremendous difference in the quality of life during the wakeful hours. I'm actually looking forward to getting this treatment so I can feel rested. By the way I tested very similar to you, except for the average length of time is for 20 to 40 seconds. Research the surgery well, and find out what kind of dental appliances you can use if applicable, if the thought of the machine is unbearable. Do your homework, it is worth it. Also, locate and call a support group in your area for more advice. Good luck.
