Hi,
Yes these events can cause sleep fragmentation. Yes you may not be able to visualize on a standard EEG montage the arousal. But, if you have the ability to record a cardiotach or line graph representation of the R to R value from the EKG, you will be able to see the increase in heart rate when the event culminates. This is another way of validating these events as significant.
