Posted by Mary E. Goff, RN on January 18, 2000 at 16:06:43:My husband has been suffering from Sleep Apnea for over 20 years now. Three times in the past five years, he has awakened from "slumber" with racing and bounding pulse, around 200. The first time, the ER was able to stablize his pulse with Dijoxine after 6 hours. The second and third times, he required electrocardiac conversion to regain normal rhythm, the third after ten hours. He is very healthy, has not been found to have any abnormal cardiac problem, and all tests run short of invasive have been normal.
The question: Has anyone heard of a connection between severe Sleep Apnea and Atrial Fibrilation? If the brain can "forget" to tell the diaphram to breathe, can it also forget to tell the heart to pump properly, sending it into fibrilation to try to normalize it's rhythm?
Any info would be wonderful, post or e-mail direct Sssarahe@sover.net
