Apnea, reading the oximeter tape.

Posted by Paul Schwartz on March 27, 1998 at 18:46:59:

My doc thinks I might have sleep apnea. Last night I sleep attached to a blood oximeter and I am wondering how to interpret the data.

There is a period during the night when the oxygen level falls to about 78% and then cycles up to about 94% and this continues for about an hour, the time period being a couple of minutes between peaks.

Should I be expecting a call from the doc telling me I have apnea? Are there better tests? What test would be better?

Paul
