Not a substitute for actual sleep studies and formal treatment, but somewhere to start while your local social services agencies get you some help:
For mild apnea:
1.Stay off your back(s): Put a small ball (tennis ball) in a sock and safety pin the sock to the middle of the back of your nightshirt. You will initially not be able to sleep well when learning to sleep in other positions, but you will quickly adapt.
2. Lose weight. 20-30 lbs is often enough to make a very noticable difference.
