unexplainable nightmare

Posted by Lisa on March 31, 1998 at 14:19:02:

I am a 25 year old female who has had boughts of insomnia for most of her life. I remember most of my dreams, and some of them used to come true. I have done many research papers on sleep and dreams but cannot come up with an answer for this one. Last July I had just fallen asleep. I saw a man in a bar stand up and point a gun at me. It was very dark, and I had a very evil, dreadful feeling. I was semiaware of myself, absolutely shivering. I
was freezing. I kept trying to wake up, but I couldn't wake up. I could here myself screaming, but I couldn't wake up. I could even hear Laverne and Shirley on the TV. I heard a mans voice laughing at me. Finally, I woke up in a cold sweat. Only 20 minutes had past since I shut my eyes. I didn't sleep for the rest of that night. A couple of months ago, something similar happened. I shut my eyes, and went to sleep, on my stomach this time. I got that cold, dark feeling again and I was shivering. I tried
to wake up but I couldn't. Then, I felt like someone was pulling me up by my hair off the bed. I literally felt like I was pulled off the bed, down to my pelvis. I could even feel it in the muscles in my neck and back. I tried to wake up and was screaming again, but I couldn't. Finally, I woke up and I was flat on the bed again, about 20 minutes later.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I have had nightmares and I have had night terrors (when I was young) but I've never had anything like this, and it scares me. Please post or e-mail. I would greatly appreciate any information on the subject.
