the above reply is about something called sleep restriction therapy. does work for a great number of people, but i read elements of many possible problems with sleep in your letter. Highly recommend that sleep disorders consultation regardless of whether you try sleep restriction or not. Also, don't be afraid of short-term solution oriented psychiatric counseling if recommended by the sleep physician. Worked for me.
