full face mask & apnea

Posted by paula brien on April 07, 1998 at 14:40:08:

Hi, I just got fitted with a full face mask (goes over nose and mouth) for use with my new CPAP machine. The pressure is set at level 8, and yet my cheeks distend like a puffer fish when I turn on the machine. IS THIS DISTENSION NORMAL?
The home health company's respitory therapist say he's only fitted one other person with a full face mask. He says they're new to the market. --- So, does anyone in this forum have any significant experience with full face masks, and an opinion about my reaction? (The reason I'm using this kind of mask is that I can't get air in or out of my nose. I'm a mouth-breather.) Mucho, mucho thanks!
