I have the same sort of problem.

Once saw a sleep specialist about it. He said the only real treatment is to go to bed an hour later each night (also getting up later) until one's bedtime had moved back to a more reasonable hour. In other words, you'd go to be at 5:00 am and then 6:00 am and then 7:00 am. As you can imagine, this will cause some serious disruption in your life!

I haven't tried it yet.

Actually, I think one reason I am in the habit of staying up so late is that I like the night better than the day--it's beautiful, peaceful, quiet, relaxing and all pressure to perform is relieved then. [And that is probably a reflection of my chronic "depression" (don't like that term).]

Lately, I've been making myself go to sleep a bit early by taking kava. Seems to be considered quite safe and doesn't create as much daytime moodiness as does melatonin and other sleep aids. Does cause some morning grogginess.
