I tried CPAP last spring and did not get along well with it. I think part of the problem was a home health care provider who didn't take the time to really work with me on it. Had UPPP last summer. Very painful for the first few days after. It didn't work. But i knew going in it was only 50/50 that it would. Of course, you always believe you are going to be one of the lucky ones or why woould you do it, right? Also, after effects are not the greatest either. I sometimes swallow down the wrong pipe now. That was a rarity before. Trying CPAP again, its been about five weeks. It hasn't made me feel like a new man like you so often hear, but i am getting used to the soft gel mask. The biggest problem is if your nose itches you haved to move the mask to get to it. Needless to say, that causes you to wake up. I use an inline heated humidfier because my experience last spring caused many nights of extreme mouth dryness. Solved the condensation problem with the insulated sleeve. Got that advice here. I'm due for a reexam next week and the doc will download the data from my CPAP. Will know much more abut the success then. I want to keep with the CPAP becasue I really am not interested in another surgery. The UPPP was enough. I'm not so much scared as I am deeply annoyed with the whole thing. Looking like an astonaut at bedtime isn't the greatest, but I guess it beats the alternatives. I sure wish they would come up with a better treatment. By the way, I agree, this site is by far the most informative and supportive of anything I've found. Good luck!
