apnea support group sought

Posted by Jeff on April 30, 1998 at 10:43:53:

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good apnea related support group meeting in the Winchester, Virginia area? I'd be willing to drive a fair ways for a good one.

I have posted here before. I was diagnosed with severe obstructive apnea in June of '96 with 107 events per hour recorded. Almost 2 years later, not only have things not gotten any better, they are getting much worse.

The sleep center, after trying various decongestants over a 2 month period, siting that surgery and dental devises were not options for me, threw in the towel and said that they could not help me 2 short months after the sleep study. The medical supply company that set up my CPAP never called or showed up again after my insurance company purchased the CPAP 2 months after it was prescribed. My insurance company, a PPO (preferred provider somethingorother), excludes more charges than it accepts and my primary care physician, though a concerned man, is not very well versed in apnea related issues.

A second sleep study performed 2 or 3 months ago shows that I am now up to 120 events per hour. A lack of quality sleep is severly and negatively impacting every aspect of my life. I am becoming incredibly angry and very frustrated that no one seems to be so much as ATTEMPTING to get me breathing and that every effort I have made to correct this, regardless of my determination and resolve, has proven fruitless. After nearly 2 years of this I am at my wits end and am now starting to have trouble coping.

I will be grateful for any recommendations or advice.

Jeff
