cpap without power available

Posted by Lew on May 08, 1998 at 10:15:35:

Hello, everyone. I'm a recent cpap user and have a Sullivan
5 cpap machine, which I use at an "11" setting. I will be
going on a fishing trip, where there is only generator power available for around 6 hours during the day-- none at night after 11 o'clock. Since this is not something that I would
ever consider giving up, I did a little checking into battery hookups for my machine. Thought I'd pass along the
info.--perhaps others will find it useful.

Basically, here's what I purchased: (oh, the info on the machine's requirements were given to the store owner where I
made the purchaseby a tech at MedRes, so that the voltage and amp requirements would be adequate for my purposes)

Batteries: Interstate Group 27 Deep Cycle 600CCA/750MCA

Charger: Schmmacker 10 AMP SE-40MAP Auto/manual Charger

Inverter(to convert DC 12 volt to AC 115 volt): Tripplite
PV200, 115VAC 200WATTS.

Althought I have done any run time tests here at home yet.
I was told my the battery specialist, after his conversation
with a tech at MedRes that with two batteries, without charging, at a setting of 11, I should be able to go 5 to 6
nights without any charging at all, and, the 6 hours of
generator power during the day will be more than adequate to
charge one battery that was drained from the previous night's sleep.

Hope this is useful information for anyone contemplating similar circumstances.

Lew
