Sounds like hynophobia, or a fear of falling asleep. I have this also, but it varies in intensity.

Some nights I have great difficulty in sleeping, because I consciously and/or subconsciously fight the process of falling asleep.

It's really a major problem, but only started a few years ago. Have absolutely no idea why.
