I was diagnosed in 1995 after causing a three car pile up. In my job I drove about 30-40,000 miles a year. I had no choice but to go on disability.

I am unable to take any of the medications for narcolepsy so do not drive. I had private disability insurance and Social Security which helped. At 45 it took a year of feeling useless before I finally accepted my situation. Today I am so glad I am not putting people in danger because I needed to drive.
