talking in sleep

Posted by carolyn on May 09, 1998 at 19:38:12:

I have always been an "active" sleeper--used to walk in my sleep, play the piano, make love, etc. For the last month, however, I've been having full conversations in my sleep--I hear and answer the people in my dreams--and wake myself up while talking in a normal, conversational tone about something rather ordinary. This is disturbing me a LOT, and my roommate in the next room must be wondering whether she's living with a loony. Of note: I am a writer, and my work is of a solitary, creative nature. Very intense stuff lately, without much social interaction.
Can anyone tell me what may be going on here? Is it common? Rare? Can stop this "social life" from waking me up? (I wake myself up laughing and crying, too--but most often just talking.)
Thanks for your input and help--
carolyn
