I have a cold humidifier and it is next to useless unless the air in my room is very hot. I can't sleep in a hot room so I gave up using the unit altogether. As I had no insurance option to buy a new unit, I ended up using a room humidifier. It works, but a portable heated unit would be much more convenient especially if I go away. I've used a heated unit in the sleep lab and loved it. I'd definitely use any arguement you can to get the heated unit. GOOD LUCK!
