I haven't had the surgery but I am a medical claims examiner. I can warn you most insurance companies do no allow UPPP for treatment of sleep apnea. They will allow LAUP if the medical necessity is documented. However, if you are getting either one for another condition besides sleep apnea, they may review the surgery differently.

According to the claim consultants where I work, it is rare that UPPP helps alleviate sleep apnea. The percentages are very low. That is the reasoning behind disallowing the procedure.

Good luck with you search for information.
