You might check out David's post on somnoplasty. He started posting info on sleep forum 3 and has continued it here on 4.
Sounds like it is going to require at least 2 surgeries for him. I would highly recommend researching this option more thoroughly before deciding.
Most research indicates that CPAP is the most effective method of treatment of sleep apnea. I have had mine for a little over 2 months. The CPAP itself is easy to get use to. You just need to make sure you get a comfortable mask for you or some people find nasal pillows better.
I have a Goldenseal gel mask now. Did not start out with it but switched to it within 3 weeks? If you elect to go with CPAP ask you medical supplier options on masks before you make your decision. You might also want to check with your insurance. My insurance said they would not cover a gel mask but since my supplier charges the same they ended up allowing it.
