I do believe that "falling feeling" is vertigo. I get it sometimes when I'm falling asleep. Sometimes it makes me nautious and sometimes I'll vomit. I'm not sure exactly what causes it, but I do believe it's some part of the brain (hypothalamus or thalamus), or it may have something to do with the inner ear... (I'm not real sure... I'm a textile chemistry major... not really my field.) Look up some info on vertigo. You should be able to find out some stuff on what causes it. I know there are prescription medicines that treat vertigo too.
