Posted by t.s. on May 21, 1998 at 10:28:30:My five week old daughter has been progressively taking fewer naps in her crib, so that she will no longer nap at all during the day unless she is being held. As soon as she becomes drowsy, we place her in the crib only to have her screaming at the top of her longs moments later. Conversely, she will sleep soundly and peacefully during the day as long as she is being held. She will sleep in her crib at night between feedings for about 2-3 hours at a time. Our pediatrician suggested that during the day we let her cry for a specifica time interval to see if she'll put herself to sleep. I am feeling conflicting emotions...she when allowed to cry for 5 minutes she only works herself into a frenzy and won't sleep. I'm concerned that this will negatively impact her ability to trust us. On the other hand, I'm concerned that she will not take a day time nap unless she is being held. Should we continue to hold her until she is 3 months old, or do we try to let her "cry it out" for specific time periods?
