Posted by Jo (Seattle, WA) on May 22, 1998 at 17:55:18:Okay...okay...so I forgot to mention in my last post that I
HAD read the archives and was looking for 'additional'
information on makes/models/masks. I know y'all probably
get very tired of repeating the same information, time after
time...understandable - but one of the pitfalls when one is
dedicated to supporting, encouraging and motivating those of
us new to what the Bi-PAP tech tells me is a "condition" as
opposed to a syndrome, illness or disease.Ended up flyin' by the seat of my pants (well...with some
good advice from a friend who was dx'd a few years back)
and brought home a KnightStar 320 by Nellcor Puritan Bennett
and a Mirage mask. Hope they fall within the "acceptable"
range inasmuch as comfort, reliability and longevity go.Now...for my caveat!! To those new to CPAP and BiPAP
"shopping"...let the buyer beware! I called a local home
health provider...chose it because it was close and I was
told anything past the set-up process requires that I take
the machine to them. Because I have an insurance issue, I
needed to rent a machine prior to the okie-dokie; the
local provider I called quoted $700 per month for the
Bi-PAP and $125-$300 for the mask...for RENTAL!!I started making phone calls. Found a provider who is not
only going to bat for me with the insurance company but
is charging $250 per month for the aforementioned equipment
PLUS a Fisher Paykel HC100 Respiratory Humidifier. This past week has been an eye-opener...one learns very
quickly, I'm finding. Along with the others who've done so,
I'd like to thank those of you here who have gone the extra
mile to make sleep disorders easier for those of us just
starting down the road to, what I've been assured will be,
a better quality of life.Thank you.
Jo
P.S. If I've erred by mentioning brand names...my
apologies...didn't know how else to communicate the
information....and, I'll try to keep my posts shorter from
here on out!
