Noisy PAP machines (was CPAP or Somnoplasty?)

I recently got a loaner machine from Respironics while they try to fix my bum machine. It turns out that the machine that I was using that kept shutting off more and more often (the leak sensitivity went haywire) finally bit the dust. The new machine is so good that the first nite I used it I overslept by 1-1/2 hour, and didn't wake up to pee at all that nite! And...the goldseal mask fits fine - with NO leaks - now that the machine I am using is working properly.

But the point I wanted to make about noise is that when I first turned on the new bi-pap (duet), it didn't have the whisper cover and it was rather loud. it may be that the noisy machines that others are complaining about are running without any kind of sound damper. I can only speak for the old and new respironics bi-paps that they do have these covers, but I would imagine any newer machine would have some sort of adaptation for sound.

Lynn Ellen, sleepy no more.
