I have been on CPAP for 3-1/2 years. During that time my pressure has been raised two times from the original pressure of 5. I'm now up to 16. I have been tested a total of 4 times.
Yes, your needs do change even though your wife may not be aware of any changes in your sleeping at night. I experienced the same thing. My husband could not tell any difference but I began falling asleep during the day again. My last test was in January, 98 at which time my pressure was increased from 8 to 16. I have already begun falling asleep during the daytime again. My doctor is recommending to my HMO provider that I be tested again (they will only pay 1 time per year). He has also told me that there is a new machine that is kind of like a CPAP with a "brain". It monitors how much pressure you need and adjusts itself accordingly thus eliminating the need for more testing. It is more expensive than the CPAP but is less expensive than having sleep studies done every year.
I would suggest you see your doctor for another study. I'm proof that your needs do change!
Any questions? I'll be glad to share experience and knowledge!
