Jeff, I can relate to your plight. I was diagnosed with OSA in March '97 and was told to buy the CPAP. It was titrated, but apparently, my sleep patterns fluctuate so much, that there doesn't seem to be any one pressure that works. I had 4 sleep studies in '97 (Maximum allowed by Ontario's health insurance) and was also tried on BiPAP all to no avail. I then was told to buy a $1,000 oral appliance which didn't work on it's own and finally I was told to combine the CPAP and oral appliance. I still continue to fall asleep in the daytime with no warning and at inconvenient times. Last night I had another sleep study (yes, Sunday) and learned they still can't find a solution. I'm with you as far as anger and frustration. I'm told the next and final step will probably have to be a tracheotomy which apparently can be closed off in the day. I'll know for sure when I have my official follow-up appointment. I know I've rambled, but I sure understand the frustration. Take heart. Somewhere, somehow an answer has GOT to come. I can't believe that science today can not prevent one's throat from closing off. Believing this is the only thing that keeps me going.
Louise
