hi Dave!
i've had narcolepsy for fifteen years and in that time i've observed a tendency towards the symptoms you described though less intense. it occurs commonly on an almost monthly basis (i jokingly equate it to the well-known female monthly cycle). There usually comes a day when, for no apparent reason, my body simply will not cooperate nor respond to any amounts of caffeine and [recently] ritalin. Sure, it is cause for frustration and even some self-loathing if i allow it. During these one to two day episodes, i come in to work but am totally unproductive, spending most of my time fixing teas, pinching and stretching to stay awake, walking around, and, ultimately, taking naps. Thankfully, my boss is compassionate if not understanding. It has become so much a part of my lifestyle and philosophy, i look upon these times as my narcoleptic koan (spiritual riddle). I try to be lenient with myself in the knowledge that tomorrow is another day. The only thing I've found to temporarily dissuade this sort of mind-numbing phase is rigorous, aggresive excercise (something aerobic and sweaty). The toughest part is summoning the energy to get going, but once i'm moving i find the natural build of adrenalin and increased blood flow to help considerably in my overall state of being. The downside is you can't take the computer with you, but hey, maybe the cell-phone? Take care, Russell
