Hi, Laureli,
First of all you are a wonderful friend. I hope your friend gets some type of help soon. I have occasionally thought of things that I wondered if I had dreamed or it really happened, but not enough to really bother me. I don't have vivid dreams, extremely rarely. I hardly ever remember my dreams, at least not in any detail. I've said all this to say that I do have fibromyalgia and I do have narcolepsy, which very often IS accompanied by vivid dreams or what they call "hypnagogic hallucinations". If your friend has been evaluated at a sleep clinic it looks like they should have found out if she had narcolepsy. However, I do know that often symptoms develop over years. Fatigue and excessive daytime sleepiness is a part. And not everyone has all the same symptoms. The same is true of fibromyalgia. There's alot of info on the Internet that may prove helpful to your friend. I would say that if she has some symptoms of fibromyalgia by all means see a good rheumatologist. My rheum. told me that very often sleep disorders and fibromyalgia are tied together, as is hypothyroidism. I can imagine the heartache of working "all night" and being so tired and waking to find it WAS a dream. Fatigue is definitely a part of both problems. Waking up tired is very real. I have been discussing a little bit with someone on one of the FMS forums about what has helped me. The other person has found help from another source. So you may want to check around. I've found that just finding out what's wrong is a big help, giving you a sense of control. Then if you find something to give you some energy that's even greater. For fibromalgia, exercise is strongly recommended, but it must be light, not too strenuous. If you don't have the energy everything is too much. I've found a way to increase energy, which enables me to walk, which in turn helps somewhat with sleep. I still have a ways to go but it least it looks upward now
Some days are still more exhausting than others. You have to listen to your body and rest when needed. I wish your friend the best. Please let us know what she finds out. God bless you both!
