-- long story --
For the last 5 years I have been searching for the source of chronic respriatory infections/flus. This winter I have been sick 5 out of 21 weeks. Everyday I have post nasal drip "of color" of varying amounts & my turbinates are always inflamed. At one point I was was on antibodics for 6 months with no improvement (only a stomach that was no longer working). I have tried almost every nose spray there is.
I have no identifiable allergies, my tonsils were removed 3 years ago, & now having trouble with my sleep. I have had two sleep studies done. The 1st resulted with a pes of -26 & the 2nd with a pes of -7 with the help of a cpap machine. Since using the machine (3 weeks) my sleep has improved slightly (so far I can only tolerate the machine for 1-3 hours), but the one infection that I had during that time, the machine made worse.
The studies looking for possible sources for a chronic low grade infection have not produced any solutions: CT Scans & Fiberoptic studies from the sinus to the stomach. The only unusual findings were enlarged uvula, base of the tounge & epigolettes (most likely due to the infections). I am now waiting to hear the results from the cultures that were taken on Tuesday.
When I get an infection the symptons include: fatigue, sore throat, sinus & chest congestion, neck pain, head ache, chills, & sometimes I loose my voice, but no fever. Standing water (bottled, or from the tap) seems to be one identifiable trigger as well as afrin (rebound effect). They generally last for 2 weeks, I stay well more or less for 4-6 weeks & then the cycle repeats itself again.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Doris
